Dublin had it's own outdoor dance event this summer in Grand Canal

This summer, Dublin Salsa Academy took our beginner classes outdoors to the scenic Grand Canal Dock. Locals and visitors alike gathered on warm evenings for open-air Latin dance workshops and socials. Our very first Grand Canal event of the year was “completely free workshops and social dancing for all of the dance community”. That day’s program included a Cuban Rueda workshop, an open-level Sensual Bachata class and a big Salsa/Bachata dance party under the sky. The result was pure joy – students of all ages were dancing in the sun, clapping and cheering each other on. As one happy learner noted, “Amazing academy… instructors are very friendly and helpful”dublinsalsacademy.com, and that warm, friendly vibe was obvious at every step.

Dancing outdoors brought a special kind of energy. With the sun setting over Grand Canal, students could just dance freely and soak up the Latin rhythms. It felt more like a summer street festival than a class – families, college students and office workers all joined in, laughing and learning together. Neighbors passing by stopped to watch (and often jumped in!), curious about these exotic moves. We even heard someone describe our free Saturday workshop as “the best dance class in Dublin near me” – and with three styles taught by friendly instructors, many agreed!

Back in our usual studio space (the Harbourmaster building at IFSC), we continue that same friendly vibe. No dance partner or experience is needed – everyone learns together. Our courses run in 8-week blocks, and new sessions start every first week of the month.

You can choose one of three exciting Latin styles each week: Sensual Bachata, Cuban-Style Salsa, or Line-Style Salsa. Classes meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6:30pm (with flexible drop-in options) – so whether you’re coming straight from work or class at Trinity or UCD, there’s a night that fits your schedule. Each evening includes a full lesson in the chosen style followed by a fun social dance. For example, every Tuesday night we hold a free Salsa & Bachata social from about 9:30–11pm, so students can practice their new moves in a relaxed party atmosphere.

  • Monday: 6:30pm – Cuban Salsa for all levels (followed by 7:30pm Salsa Line and 8:30pm Sensual Bachata).

  • Tuesday: 6:30pm – Salsa Line style; 7:30pm – Sensual Bachata; 8:30pm – Cuban Salsa. (Then free Salsa & Bachata social from ~9:30)

  • Wednesday: 6:30pm – Salsa Line style; 7:30pm – Cuban Salsa; 8:30pm – Sensual Bachata (followed by a Salsa/Bachata social).

All classes are taught at your own pace in a warm, encouraging environment. You rotate partners in class, so no one needs to bring a partner – just come ready to dance. And because we’re real Dublin locals, we keep it convenient: Pay by cash or Revolut at the door when you arrive.

Why Choose Salsa (and Bachata) in Dublin?

Irish dancing and Riverdance are world-famous symbols of Dublin’s culture. But if you’re looking to shake up your routine, Latin dance adds a whole new rhythm to life in Ireland! Salsa and Bachata bring Latin flavor and energy to our city’s nightlife. Many of our students tell us they tried salsa to complement Ireland’s traditions. As DoDublin notes, “Ireland is synonymous with Irish dancing” and Riverdance still reigns supreme – yet learning Cuban or LA-style salsa has been a thrilling surprise for Dubliners craving a different beat. In fact, we see all kinds of people in our classes – from university students unwinding after exams to city professionals and even retirees – because the music is infectious and the community is welcoming.

At Dublin Salsa Academy we emphasize fun and confidence. Forget the usual “dance lesson” anxiety – here you just dance, make new friends, and let the music move you. You’ll walk out of every class with a smile (and maybe a bit sweaty!), ready to tackle your day or night. Whether you’re searching for “dance lessons near me” or hoping to join one of the best dance schools in Dublin, our multi-style program has something for you.

Ready to join in? Registration re-opens every month – just visit our website or drop by before the first week of the month to sign up.
