The evenings are dark by seven, the gym direct debit has stopped meaning anything to you, and Mondays feel longer than they should.

Here is the practical part. Beginner dance classes in Dublin start on fixed dates every month, and the October intake opens on the 5th, 6th and 7th.

• First call: Monday 5th, Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th October.
• Last call: Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th October.
• Cost: €45 for four weeks. €85 gets you eight.
• Where: Harbourmaster, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 (IFSC).

The October Dates, and the One After That

First call: 5th, 6th and 7th October. This is the week the new Level 1 groups open.
Last call: 12th, 13th and 14th October. After that the October group is closed and you are waiting for November.
November intake: first call on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, last call on the 9th, 10th and 11th.
Which day: you can start on any of the first call days, not just the Monday. Some people start on a Tuesday because Tuesday suits their job.

How Four Weeks of Level 1 Actually Runs

One class a week, one hour long, four weeks. Beginner dance classes in Dublin all run to the same shape, whichever style you pick. You pick your night, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, and you pick your slot: 18:30, 19:30 or 20:30.

Week one covers the basic step and where the beat actually sits. By week four you are dancing simple full routines rather than isolated steps, and you will have met most of the room.

If four weeks does not feel like enough, the 8-week option carries you further in the same style for €85.

Which Style, and Which Night

Three styles run under the one roof: Cuban Salsa, Line Salsa and Sensual Bachata. Beginners start in all three, every week.

The weekly order changes. On a Monday, Cuban Salsa starts at 18:30, Line Salsa at 19:30 and Sensual Bachata at 20:30. Tuesday and Wednesday run the same three classes in a different order.

If you are caught between styles, check the full timetable and start with whichever night fits your week. Your first week is flexible, so you can try the others before you settle.

What October Costs

€45 for four weeks, one style, one class a week. €85 for eight weeks. Booking happens online, and payment is Revolut or cash at the door.

That is just over a tenner a class, which is cheaper than a cinema ticket and lasts longer than the film.

Who Else Starts in October

The October crowd usually includes people who moved to Dublin in the last year and want a social life that is not just the pub. People whose friends are all busy with babies. People who did one salsa class on holidays and have been meaning to pick it up again.

Most of them arrive on their own. That is normal here, and it is half the reason the classes rotate partners every few minutes.

You do not need to know anyone beforehand. You will know several people by the end of the hour.

October Intake Questions

Do I have to start on the 5th of October? No. You can start on any of the first call days: the 5th, 6th or 7th.
What if I miss the October dates? The next intake is November, with first call on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Do I need a partner to join? No. Partners rotate every few minutes during class, so you will dance with plenty of people.

What happens on the first night? Here is the whole night, 18:15 to the social at 21:30.

Why Autumn Beats January

January resolutions are famous for lasting three weeks. Autumn is easier to keep: dark evenings, an empty calendar, and a room full of people who also wanted somewhere to be on a Monday.

Four weeks from the October intake puts you dancing by November. By the time the Christmas parties arrive, you have something to show for it.
